Just thought I’d share this charming piece of graffiti from near my home.
By the way, this is the ONLY women’s library in the country, it has only women’s work in it and also serves as a sort of feminist museum. They’re affiliated with a university close by and hold regular events such as workshops and talks on subjects like the poetry of immigrant women of colour or the representation of mental health in women’s literature. Its also due to be closed down by the Conservatives.
Can men go in and borrow books written by women?
Yeah, totally, they even do events for men by women on intro to feminism, rape culture stuff sometimes!
god forbid women have a single fucking thing without men getting jealous like fucking children
Ugh

- Can anyone suggest a nice (preferably cheap or free) venue in London to hold our next Rookie meet/workshop in October? It could be a cafe or library, anywhere we can sit and talk and make things together!

This is a photograph of me taken at the London Rookie meet with caterpillar stickers on my cheeks and a glitter and flower infused tiara.
I wrote a bit about my UCL History summer school, a Religious Studies conference on money that my school ran, and the Rookie meet at my grown up girl blog. I had such a swell time at the meet - not just because of tiaras, stickers, clothes + book swapping, and cupcakes - but also because it was an environment where everyone was just really passionate in politics and it was so easy to have discussions and debates.
I hope that the Women’s Library isn’t going to be shut down (sign the petition here!) because it’s an important resource that needs to be preserved and it’d be wonderful if we could hold our next meeting there with readings of our favourite works and our own writing.
